MCERTS Audits For Plants Discharging Wastewater
Sep 12 2011
Emerson Process Management’s METCO Services organisation has extended its flow management expertise into the wastewater industry. METCO will now provide independent audits to both the Water Utilities and Industrial Dischargers that have been granted legal consents and permits to discharge by the Environment Agency.
Independent audits are a requirement of the MCERTS scheme in order that dischargers can demonstrate “Self Monitoring of Effluent Flow”. The audits will examine the site process configuration, measuring equipment (and how it is installed), and the quality system that manages it. The output of the audit will be a report detailing whether or not the site meets the required standard. This report will then form the basis of formally issuing a MCERTS “Site Conformity Inspection Certificate” for compliance.
Aberdeen-based METCO is Emerson’s specialist measurement services organisation, providing audit and consultancy services, field technicians and office based engineers to help companies in the water and oil & gas industries manage their fiscal, allocation and environmental measurement infrastructure.
METCO Services has been providing metering services to the global oil and gas industry for over 30 years. Services include metering management contracts, flow measurement services and consultancy and training. Emerson is now building on the considerable flow management expertise of METCO Services to assist customer sites discharging wastewater.
“We have grown our business on providing measurement services to the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry,” said Gordon Fish, Managing Director of METCO Services. “The management of fiscal measurement systems is very demanding and places us in an ideal position to be able to provide similar services to other industries and applications.”
“The MCERTS audit group is complementary to Emerson’s existing flow measurement auditing business,” said Paul Cherry, Flow Specialist, METCO Services. “The added capability to carry out MCERTS audits, using qualified inspectors, places METCO in a strong position to continue to provide and grow its overall auditing and inspection capability.”
The MCERTS audit group offers independent advice and will recommend the best technical and cost efficient solution. Emerson’s remedial team will then provide a vendor neutral recommendation for any work required to bring the installation up to the MCERTS standard.
