Environmental sensing platform brings compact air quality monitoring to market

Sensirion has announced the general availability of its SEN62, a compact environmental sensing module designed to measure key indoor air quality parameters, including particulate matter, humidity and temperature.

Part of the SEN6x family, the SEN62 has been developed with straightforward integration in mind. It is aimed at manufacturers looking to add reliable air quality monitoring to their products without the burden of complex calibration or lengthy development cycles.

The module comes factory-calibrated and includes built-in algorithms that handle much of the data processing internally. In practical terms, this reduces the engineering workload and allows developers to focus more on the end application rather than sensor tuning or signal optimisation.

Typical applications include air purifiers, HVAC systems, smart home devices and dedicated air quality monitors. These are all areas where space, cost and ease of integration are important, but where measurement reliability still matters. The SEN62 also supports alignment with recognised indoor air quality frameworks such as RESET® and the WELL Building Standard™, which is increasingly relevant in commercial and building management applications.

At the core of the platform is Sensirion’s SPS6x particulate matter sensing element, a miniaturised MEMS-based component. This provides the PM measurement capability in a compact form factor, enabling the SEN6x platform to deliver a balance of performance and scalability without adding unnecessary complexity to device design.

The SEN62 reflects a wider trend in environmental sensing, moving away from standalone, highly engineered measurement systems towards compact, pre-integrated modules that can be more easily embedded into everyday products.
