Optimum cooling water treatment

The new controller AEGIS II is a multi-parameter control and analysis platform from ProMinent with built in wireless access point and ethernet. The controller has been developed for continuous measurement and control of liquid analysis parameters in water treatment processes - especially for cooling water treatment - in industry. The controller can operate together with conventional analog and digital sensors and actuators. It reliably prevents corrosion, deposits and biological growth in evaporator cooling water circuits. For this purpose, the AEGIS II measuring and control device acquires all necessary measuring parameters and controls functions that ensure faultless operation. Such as: conductivity, pH, ORP, chlorine, bromine, chlorine dioxide, peroxide, corrosion and fluorescence. The sensor controlled bleed function and exact addition of biocides and corrosion inhibitors ensures a uniformly high efficiency of the cooling circuit heat exchangers.

The water in a cooling tower constantly evaporates and leads to thickening. The reason: only the pure water evaporates, but not containing salts and solids. This happens until the remaining water with its ingredients is saturated. If this degree of saturation is exceeded, the concentrated ingredients are deposited in the system. Therefore, fresh water should be refilled before reaching the saturation point. This is where the controller AEGIS II comes into play: It continuously measures the conductivity of the cooling water and automatically starts the necessary bleed. A certain proportion of the saturated water is drained off and replenished with fresh water. The conductivity decreases due to the dilution with which the concentration of the salts decreases.

After bleeding, the bleed valve closes. The cycle starts again. In addition, controller AEGIS II controls the dosage of a disinfectant to prevent contamination.

Users benefit: extended functions

With timed or sensor controlled biocide dosing, users benefit from the extended functions of pre bleed and bleed lockout. They ensure an optimised mode of action of the biocide used. For example, pre bleed (forced bleed) carries out a bleed prior to biocide dosing. After the biocide dosage, the bleed lockout blocks a bleed. In this way, the biocide can always disinfect effectively.

Whether plant components or pipes are attacked due to the high salt concentrations in cooling water is monitored by means of corrosion measurement. Two corrosion sensors can be connected to the controller AEGIS so that a trend corrosion measurement can be carried out. Compared to the delayed information of the coupon method is this a real time information about current corrosion effects. There are corrosion sensors for different metals available.

Summary

The new controller AEGIS II provides reliable control and offers the most flexible data log and field bus and web based communication options to optimize efficiency and profitability for all cooling water applications. The new keypad design enables easy menu navigation and enhanced responsive browser views for smart phones and tablets.
