Water quality monitoring to continue at NJ site

Sep 04 2009

Water quality monitoring is set to continue at a New Jersey site, despite the fact that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is deleting it from its list of the country's most hazardous waste sites.

One well at the Wilson Farm Superfund site in Plumsted Township, New Jersey, still contains low levels of chloroform which will be monitored until the level reaches ground water quality standards.

However, acting regional administrator George Pavlou - who was appointed to his position in January - said that the EPA has made sure the site no longer poses a threat to the community and that deleting it from the Superfund list shows that the hard work it takes to thoroughly clean up such a facility has a big payoff in the end.

"The fact that we can take this site off the list shows that the Superfund programme delivers results for the people of New Jersey," he stated.
