Engineered Polymer Ultrasonic Meter

Badger Meter (USA), a specialist global innovator and manufacturer of flow control solutions, is expanding its E-Series Ultrasonic Meter offering with the addition of the new Cold Water Engineered Polymer Meters available in two initial sizes: 5/8 inch x 3/4 inch and 3/4 inch. Constructed using a lead-free, engineered polymer housing and an engineered polymer and stainless steel metering insert, the new meters provide a lower cost alternative to the Stainless Steel E-Series Meters for residential and commercial water metering applications.

“This cost-effective, corrosion-resistant metering solution complies with current and future lead-free regulations, while also capturing ultra-low flow measurement and offering a high level of metering accuracy,” says Brooke Lange, Badger Meter product specialist. “In addition, when used in conjunction with Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA) solutions, the E-Series provides the ability to convey information that can be helpful in detecting leaks or other alarm conditions, a feature that is not typically available through traditional mechanical meters.”

Smaller in overall height and weight when compared to similar ultrasonic meters, the E-Series Meter employs solid-state electronic technology in a totally encapsulated, weatherproof and UV-resistant housing to provide long-term, highly accurate flow measurement for utilities. Using high frequency sound waves to measure flow, the E-Series Ultrasonic Meter has no moving parts, eliminating measurement errors due to sand, suspended particles and pressure fluctuations.

The Engineered Polymer E-Series Meter features a minimum extended low-flow rate that is lower than typical positive displacement meters. The 5/8 inch x 3/4 inch meter has an operating range of 0.1 to 25 gallons per minute (gpm), with an extended flow rate of 0.05 gpm. The 3/4 inch meter has an operating range of 0.1 to 32 gpm, with an extended low flow rate of 0.05 gpm. Additionally, the Engineered Polymer E-Series Meter exceeds pressure requirements of AWWA and incorporates reinforcing glass fibres for added spud strength and durability.

An easy-to-read, nine-digit LCD display presents consumption, rate of flow, reserve-flow alarm and other status indicators. Compatible with Badger Meter AMR/AMI/AMA metering solutions as well as other technologies, the Engineered Polymer Meter is completely submersible with an internal battery that will last up to 20 years.

Additional sizes of the Engineered Polymer E-Series Ultrasonic Meter will be available later this year.

The E-Series Meter is also available with stainless steel housings in six sizes: 5/8 inch, 5/8 x 3/4 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch. Badger Meter currently holds UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) certification for its 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch stainless steel E-Series Meters. Listed under UL Subject 327B for residential fire service applications, E-Series Meters are the first electronic meters to receive certification under this newly published standard. With the UL Subject 327B listing, E-Series Meters are available for applications including potable water, reclaimed water and residential fire service.
