RC 900 rotary evaporator wins Red Dot Award
Oct 25 2014
The Red Dot Award is recognised across the globe as a mark of outstanding design quality, and this year the coveted award has been bestowed on the new RC 900 rotary evaporator from KNF LAB in the category of product design. Launched just three months ago, the most recent addition to the KNF product family was able to beat off fierce competition from a huge number of entrants – 4,815 applications from 53 countries were submitted for this year’s award. The international jury tested, discussed and assessed the products during a three-day evaluation process at the Red Dot Design Museum where functionality, ergonomics and user-friendliness formed the main evaluation criteria.
In April of this year, KNF LAB showcased the RC 900 rotary evaporator for the first time at Analytica, the leading trade show for lab technology, analytics and biotechnology, in Munich. The product is a logical extension of the systems approach adopted by the pump manufacturer, which has representative offices spanning the globe. KNF LAB has offered a device that works in connection with distilling apparatus for many years in the shape of the SC 920 vacuum pump system. The aim was now to develop a proprietary rotary evaporator that is easy to operate and has a small footprint. The resulting product comprises a host of innovative functions and qualities that make day-to-day work more convenient and enjoyable. These include an advanced remote control system, which provides a central operating point for all functions. In addition, the device works almost silently, and routine tasks such as changing flasks are easy to perform. The linear shape of the device makes cleaning fast and easy – an important attribute in a lab. What is more, the design also addresses a major safety weakness: all hoses are kept safely in the flask tower, and even the heating bath requires no cable connections.
The RC 900 can easily be teamed with the SC 920 vacuum pump system and the C 900 condenser to create an economically-efficient complete system.
