Update: Mercury emissions monitoring

Gasmet’s new White Paper on mercury emissions monitoring provides an overview of initiatives to reduce emissions and explains how continuous monitoring informs the operation of pollution abatement equipment and process control, whilst demonstrating compliance with mercury emission limits. The Paper also provides an insight into existing and upcoming regulations on mercury emissions.

The advantages of Cold Vapour Atomic Fluorescence (CVAF) are discussed and compared with Cold Vapour Atomic Absorption (CVAA). In addition, the answers to 13 common questions are provided, addressing issues such as detection limits, interferences, quenching, sampling quality and calibration.

The Paper also describes the development of Gasmet’s Continuous Mercury Monitoring system (CMM) which employs CVAF to provide a monitor that is simple and low cost to operate, and delivers high levels of sensitivity without interferences. The CMM measures total mercury, and is able to do so in industrial emissions containing high levels of dust.
