New Handheld Analyser for Asbestos Screening Launched
Aug 18 2011
Thermo Fisher Scientific (USA) announces the release of the Thermo Scientific microPHAZIR AS, a handheld analyser designed for screening and identification of asbestos-containing materials. The analyser delivers accurate results on the spot, enabling users to perform rapid screening at no incremental cost.
The 2.75 lbs (1.25kg) microPHAZIR™ AS analyser enables accurate screening of potential asbestos-containing materials to minimise work delays and inspection costs due to sample processing and help ensure worker safety during material handling. Powered by near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, a proven analytical technique used in laboratories for quality analysis and material identification, the handheld microPHAZIR AS is designed for ease-of-use by non-experts with limited operational training. The analyser is completely self-contained, fully automated and non-destructive.
“With increasing regulations, it is critical to implement a screening process that reduces the risk of releasing asbestos into the environment or asbestos-containing materials into the consumer goods manufacturing process,” said Chris Petty, vice president and general manager of Thermo Fisher’s portable optical analysis business. “The ability to bring lab-quality analysis to the sample makes it easier and more cost-effective than ever for material handlers across a variety of industries to work more efficiently and ensure both consumer and worker safety.”
