New Monitor Ideal for all Types of Nuclear Contamination Monitoring

Radhound is a new digital radiation monitor from Southern Scientific. Radhound is a powerful, general purpose, nuclear contamination monitor for use with Geiger and scintillation probes that provides consistent and stable measurement of alpha, beta and gamma contamination.

The compact, micro-processor-based Radhound is a low-cost and versatile instrument that can be used with the wide range of radiation measurement probes supplied by Southern Scientific and those from other suppliers. It is ideal for all nuclear radiation measuring applications in both industry and medicine.

Radhound is simple to use and has a clear, digital LCD display with backlight that, operating with Southern Scientific’s own `smart averaging’ software, ensures a steady display that can be read with total confidence. It also has an ergonomic tilt stand and a convenient probe holder. An optional RS232 or IR port can be fitted for external communications. The internal rechargeable, lithium ion battery gives over 12 hours of operation.

Features include configurable alarm levels and a source finding facility using a histogram plot. Alpha and Beta+Gamma counts can be displayed separately on the same screen, alternatively if a compensated GM probe is used dose rate SV or Rads is displayed. Radhound’s preset time or count facility means that field or laboratory surveying and clearance applications can be completed without the need to carry multiple instruments. In most cases all functions are easily accessible via a single button and all features can be disabled using a simple password protected command.

Radhound is ideal for contamination monitoring or surveying surfaces, clothing and objects in nuclear medicine departments and in radiological and laboratory work. It is also highly suitable for area survey work, for border control monitoring and nuclear homeland security.
