Feature-Rich Rugged Tablet Delivers on the Go or in the Field

Getac (UK) has upgraded its lightweight E100 fully rugged tablet PC – the unit used by mobile and field-based personnel working in demanding sectors such as public utilities, waste management, maintenance and safety.

“The E100’s flexible functionality, combined with its increased storage capacity and solid-state drive make it a robust yet adaptable power tool for field service personnel in all industries,” explains Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director of Getac in the UK. “Its small profile and weight also allow for low cost vehicle installation and it has a GPS modem integrated as part of the device rather than through an external dongle.”

The upgraded model offers increased processing power thanks to its 1.6GHz single core, Intel Atom processor, with 2GB RAM, and is powerful enough to handle web-based applications out in the field thanks to the integrated HSDPA modem.

The E100 weighs just three pounds (1.36kg) – making it one of the lightest rugged tablet PCs on the market – and has an 800 NITS display (meaning it can be read in direct sunlight), with a hot-swap battery which has a life of up to five hours, 3G wireless network and an industry-leading five year warranty. All IP and MIL STD ratings are maintained with these product features and the unit has a tough magnesium alloy case.

"This upgrade provides an all-in-one solution for customer service and field-based employees working in some of the toughest environments,” adds Molyneux.  The E100 meets MIL-STD-810G and IP65 standards for durability and protection against dirt, dust, water, motion, vibration, temperature and other factors which would damage or disable a commercial-grade PC.

The spec includes an 80Gb solid-state drive as standard, providing files and documents with further protection against vibration, accidental drops, extreme temperatures and other conditions and physical abuse typically encountered in field-based operations. The unit uses Getac’s advanced LED backlight and anti-reflective technologies. The sunlight-readable display and touchscreen can be seen clearly even in direct sunlight and an embedded capacitor means the battery can be safely changed without shutting down (and losing valuable information).

The E100 also has an RS-232 serial port, two USB ports, an option for dual smart-card readers for special applications and requirements, an embedded microphone, 812.11a/g/n wireless LAN, Giga LAN, Windows® 7.0 Professional and Bluetooth® 2.0 as standard features with optional 3G Network connectivity for those requiring wireless access in the field.
Getac’s exclusive fanless design provides cool, quiet operation. A strong options list also includes a Pro Custom ‘Build to Order’ service, vehicle dock, carrying case and portable dual battery charger.

“This is a tough, reliable and powerful tablet PC which provides advanced features and functionality in a compact and adaptable device,” said Molyneux.
