EU Commission Green Paper on EU Corporate Governance Framework

This Tuesday (5th April), The EU Commission will be meeting to discuss the Green Paper on the ’EU CG Framework’. The report is set to cover boards, including issues concerning composition, such as diversity, risk management and remuneration, shareholders and strengths/weaknesses of comply-or-explain across the EU.

A new United Nations report has also suggested that investing heavily in green sectors of the world economy would deliver long-term stability in the global economy.
The report, from the UN Environmental Program’s (UNEP) Green Economy Initiative says that spending just two per cent of global GDP in 10 key ‘green economy’ areas would generate a ‘low carbon, resource efficient green economy’. The definition of ‘green economy’ provided by the report is one that resulted in ‘improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities’

In recent years, the global financial community has seen an increase in demand for greener investment opportunities with an environmental focus. This week will shed light on the reasons why it is more important now than ever before for investors to seek alternative, greener ways to achieve sustainable growth from their investments. Carbon offset projects and reforestation projects in locations such as the Amazon rainforest are some of the ways companies are looking to address the wider issues around Climate Change thus marrying profit with principles.

Robert Hague, spokesperson of Emerald Knight says,
"Investors in Europe and around the world are demonstrating a growing demand for socially responsible responsible investments, much of their interest is being stimulated by concerns about climate change and the stability and growth offered by these investments"
