Waste carrier fined for not registering

Jun 19 2009

Brampton Contractors of Birmingham has been fined and ordered to pay costs of more than £2,000 by Worcester Magistrates' Court after failing to register as a waste carrier.

Businesses carrying waste are required to register at a cost of £152 for three years.

Action was taken against the company last year after police officers stopped a vehicle carrying builders' debris and kitchen cabinets.

Speaking after the case, Environment Agency enforcement officer Peter Yeomans said the fine and court action could have easily been avoided.

"The agency is working closely in partnership with the police to check that waste carriers are registered and ensure waste is disposed of in a correct manner to prevent flytipping and protect the environment," he added.

In related news, two plumbers from the north-west were fined for carrying illegal waste last month.

According to the Bolton News, the pair received the penalty after being flagged down by the police who were checking vehicles for red diesel at the time.
