Event 'to help farmers understand soil quality'

Sep 08 2008

Farmers in the US will be able to benefit from a series of field days that will aim to help them better understand soil quality, it has emerged.

Wisconsin Ag Connection reports that three soil quality filed days are to be held at different locations around the state this month.

The programmes will provide information subjects from water infiltration and aeration to soil structure and aggregate stability, as well as discussions about living organisms in the soil.

"Each field day will start with a short classroom session to cover background information, followed by lunch," the news portal said.

Participants will also be able to visit some sites following the talks in order to gain experience in soil monitoring.

Earlier this month, Wisconsin Ag Connection reported that crops in the region were suffering as a result of the lack of moisture in the soil.
