New generation of compact aerosol spectrometers offer enhanced precision thanks to improved technology

GRIMM Aerosol Technik GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of DURAG, has unveiled a new generation of portable aerosol spectrometers in the form of the GRIMM 11-D, which is a continuation of its successful product series. Moreover, the company has as a result consolidated its product portfolio, since the device combines the advantages of five previous models. It is based on the measurement principle of scattered light detection of individual particles with an especially high size resolution.

GRIMM has greatly improved important features of the 11-D compared to previous models: The optical measurement cell has been completely overhauled, new device software implemented, the electronics optimized and a new battery generation added. The provision of new dust mass fractions, total particle number and dust mass distribution with outstanding precision are among the most important new features of the aerosol spectrometer. In addition, the product design has been consistently aligned with that of the DURAG GROUP. Dr. Friedhelm Schneider, Product Manager at GRIMM, on the launch of the new product, "The latest generation of our aerosol spectrometer sets standards in terms of precision, reliability and flexibility. The GRIMM 11-D not only provides measurements, but thanks to its high size resolution, also indications for evaluating dust measurement. It is this outstanding precision thanks to 31 recorded particle size channels that also makes the 11-D of interest to science and aerosol research."

The 11-D can be used wherever dust mass or particle number are relevant. For example, this includes the interior air quality in buildings and vehicles, dust exposure at the workplace according to EN 481 with high time resolution or also indication measurements of particulate matter in outdoor air, aerosol research and fine particle PM2.5 in interiors according to VDI 4300 Part 11. One of the first customers of the new spectrometer is a US smartphone manufacturer.
