Free upgrades and options on portable analysers by download from Geotech

Sep 12 2012

Portable gas analyser users can now upgrade to the latest, much-improved firmware with a free Internet download from Geotech. It is available now. The company is introducing its first free, online product upgrades for the new Geotech 5000 range of portable landfill gas and biogas analysers. They are the anaerobic digestion BIOGAS 5000 and the landfill gas GA5000 and GEM5000. As promised at product launch in January 2012, Geotech designed in future proofing to allow customers to extend their product life by downloading free upgrades. This helps customers keep each analyser in a fleet up-to-date and interchangeable between technicians - even if customers acquire analysers over several years.

One size fits all
On every site and everywhere in the world user experience and familiarity with the product varies. A portable gas analyser may be used by an expert, a new or infrequent user and each may have different requirements depending on application. Normally, an expert wants to work fast and does not need helpful prompts but new and often infrequent users benefit from contextual help and prompting. Users can switch these prompts on or off as they wish. At times users may need just to take a quick single reading.

Geotech has made that very easy with a ‘simple gas’ function. Within each product in its new range, Geotech caters for every type of user and application with this new choice of user settings all available free with an Internet download or new purchase. The analysers and upgrades will be offered in five languages. New short videos show current, new and potential users that changing menus is easy and illustrate the choice of operation in: ‘user help off’ for regular users or ‘user help on’ for new users, either of which can be set as the default setting, as well as ‘simple gas’ for a quick single reading available on both settings.

Commenting, Dean Kavanagh, director, said, “We believe we are the first in a global market to offer this kind of online upgradeable functionality to help customers upgrade free. Of course, users don’t have to upgrade their analyser themselves if they don’t want to, as all GA5000, GEM5000 and BIOGAS 5000 analysers will be upgraded to the latest firmware when they are factory serviced and calibrated.”

Easy download
For users, downloading the upgrade from the Geotech website is done in just a few simple steps. Once the analyser is identified by its serial number and with a few additional details, users have instant access to the Geotech online ‘updater tool’. This programme will retrieve and install the upgrade files on an analyser via a USB cable. The new firmware preserves the existing data in the analyser memory and maintains compatibility with Geotech GAM software.

Quality, speed, accuracy and reliability
Each product in this new generation of gas analysers has a full-colour screen for ease of use, a 3-year warranty, full UK and international certification, improved accuracy and a response time twice as fast as earlier models. The GA5000 measures CH4, CO2, CO, O2 and H2S in landfill gas and the BIOGAS 5000 for anaerobic digestion measures CH4, CO2, O2 and H2S in biogas.

Future outlook
Long before it designed its new range of biogas analysers Geotech considered what it had learnt in the preceding decades of manufacturing, supplying and servicing medical gas and biogas analysers. From that came the specification of online, user-completed product upgrades. Launched before the new landfill gas and biogas analyser range, the Geotech medical gas analyser range pioneered Internet product connectivity. Now it is offered with biogas and landfill gas analysers and is evidence of the new future level of Geotech customers’ connection and manufacture support via the Internet, anywhere in the world, at broadband speed.
