Costa Del Sol air quality 'to be improved'

Oct 31 2008

Sensors have been put in place in the Spanish region of Costa Del Sol in an attempt to better monitor the air quality, it has emerged.

As reported by euroweeklynews.com, the Junta de Andalucia's environmental department has implemented the changes due to concerns about air quality.

These air monitoring measures are being put into place as part of a larger initiative by the Andalucian government to focus on air quality control in seaside towns, including Manilva, Marbella, Casares and Torremolinos.

An increase in the volume of road traffic in these areas is being held responsible for the deterioration of air quality, according to the report.

Locals are being encouraged, as a result, to walk, take public transport or cycle instead of drive cars.

Coastasol.com claims that the area's residents "still live according to age-old traditions" and that many of the coastal villages hold "particular appeal for the adventurous traveller".
